Trade Winds Launch Party ~ Giveaway #2 ~ Interview with Kallypso Masters

I don’t write books quickly, but anticipate having the fifth book out in the Rescue Me series before the end of summer. Somebody’s Angel will be in edits in July and continues the story of all of the characters readers have come to know and love since Masters at Arms, plus Luke and Cassie, but the primary focus will be on Marc and Angelina.
I also am in the process of having the current books in the series translated into Spanish. Sargentos Marines  (Masters at Arms) will release in early June, followed in July with El Ángel de Nadie (Nobody’s Angel). Once translated, the books have been read by Spanish-speaking readers to be checked over thoroughly before they will be published in e-book format on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and elsewhere.

Here is the Spanish edition cover

Let’s get to know you a little better!!
A: If you could visit any period in history, what time frame would it be and why?

K:The Western US in the 1880s. Since summer 2011, I’ve had a story rattling around in my head about Adam Montague’s great-great-grandparents, Kate Gannon and Johnny Montague, set in this time period in Deadwood, South Dakota. I want to explore topics of exploitation of women, racism, immigration and other topics by telling this story about a man who is half Lakota and half French who meets an Irish immigrant caught up in a bait-and-switch prostitution scam. The book will be part of the Rescue Me series and will be published sometime after Patrick Gallagher’s story is told.
A: Quick: five single, non-related words to describe the hero and heroine in your current WIP. (Make sure to tell us the characters’ names!)

K: Marc D’Alessio is tortured, distrustful, lonely, seeking, and tactile. Angelina is exploring, loving, adventurous, protective, and demonstrative.
A: This is a Launch Party for my new book, “Trade Winds,” where I make NO secret about my love for waterfall sex. *Grin.* So spill: what’s your outdoor sex fantasy? Perhaps you’ve already written it? Which book was it in?

K: Definitely sex in a certain beach cave you are intimately familiar with, Angel—the cave at Thousand Steps Beach. And, yes, it has been featured in two scenes with Damián and Savannah in Masters at Arms and Nobody’s Perfect.
A: What are you looking forward to seeing or doing the most this summer? Any summer rituals or traditions you’d like to share?

K: My husband and I visit his family in South Jersey every July and we’re looking forward to that. A new summer tradition (this is year two!), I’ll attend Authors After Dark. This year, I am honored to be a featured author at the reader/author conference.
A: Do you use music for inspiration? If so, what gets your motor running for what scenes?

K: My choices in music are very much character-driven, just like my stories. Music can definitely put me inside the heads of characters, but each book/couple’s music preference is very different. Often I will mention their music likes in the books. Tarja Tarunen for Karla; Arrowsmith and 80s Rock for Adam; Mary Chapin Carpenter for Angelina; Andrea Bocelli’s Romanza CD for my Italian hero Marc; Sarah McLachlan’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy CD for Savannah; Marc Anthony for Damián; Ty Herndon and Keith Urban for Luke. I haven’t spent enough time in Cassie’s head to know what type of music she likes, but hope to discover that while writing book six, Nobody’s Dream.
A: Same question, only apply it to movie and TV stars. Who’s on the top of your hottie list right now?

K: My hottie list for male actors is Chad Everett, Raoul Bova, Mark Harmon (but only as Gibbs on NCIS where he is such a Dominant, protective male), Sam Elliott, and Johnny Depp. Most of these guys have inspired one of my characters. As for women stars. Hmmm. They don’t turn me on so I have none on my hottie list for them.
A: When was the last time you cried, and why?

K: I get emotional and cry when I write sad scenes with my characters going through something painful. So it would have been a week ago as I was writing a scene with Marc confronting a lifelong inner pain that is coming out after being buried most of his life. He’s kept everything so closed off for so long that watching him go through it is so hard for us both. But crying is cathartic for me (and sometimes for my characters). And I’m one of those writers who believes that if *I* don’t cry, my readers won’t feel the story at a deep enough emotional level either.
And now for some true silliness:
Pizza or burgers? Pizza
Pie or cake? Pie
Snickers or Milky Way? Snickers (Not a chocolate addict, but love nuts and caramel)
Vickie’s Secret or Freddies of Hollywood? Hips & Curves (I’m not a stick figure!)
The Rock or Vin Diesel? I go more for the strong, silent type. But for someone who combines that AND brawn, I’d say Chris Hemsworth in Thor. He’s inspiration for my “Viking” Norwegian-American Gunnar Larson.
Tooth extraction or pap smear?Tooth extraction (because it usually involves laughing gas and novacain to ease the pain)
Awesome foreplay or mushy post-coital cuddle? Cuddles are both foreplay and post-coital for me!
Anything else you want to share or pimp?
I recently opened my online Kally Swag Store ( where fans can purchase “culinary bondage” aprons and t-shirts (Nobody’s Angel); “I’m a Masters Brat” keychains, necklaces, and pendants; evil sticks from Nobody’s Perfect; “Eyes on Me” Ka-thunk hand fans (Nobody’s Hero); and signed paperbacks.

I write emotional, realistic Romance novels with dominant males (for the most part) and the women who can bring them to their knees. I also seem to bring many readers to their knees—having them experience these emotional stories right along with my characters in the Rescue Me series. I know that Happily Ever After takes maintenance, so my couples don’t solve all their problems and disappear at “the end” of their primary Romance novel, but will continue to work on real problems in their relationships in later books in the series.

I’ve been writing full-time since May 2011, having quit my “day job” the month before. Masters at Arms was my debut novel (published in August 2011), followed by Nobody’s Angel, Nobody’s Hero, and Nobody’s Perfect. I have plans to continue telling the tales of these and many more characters in the series (and perhaps a spin-off series) for many, many years to come, but encourage readers to read these books in order. (My readers and reviewers often reiterate this, because they know how it sometimes takes a couple several books to have their full “arc” to their Happily Ever After.)

I live in rural Kentucky and have been working on my own Happily Ever After for more than 30 years. My hubby and I have two adult children, one adorable grandson, and a rescued dog and cat.

I love meeting readers at national romance-novel conventions, book signings, and informal gatherings (restaurants, airports, bookstores, wherever—watch my Facebook timeline for announcements!), as well as in online groups (including Facebook’s “The Rescue Me Series Open Discussion group” and FetLife’s new “Rescue Me! Series Discussion Group). I also get to know readers via social media and in live online chats. I recently opened up the Kally Swag Store (via her Website) where fans can buy “culinary bondage” tees and aprons (from Nobody’s Angel), evil sticks (from Nobody’s Perfect), hand fans (from Nobody’s Hero—laminated and lickable with Adam’s hot chest on them!), signed paperbacks, and with each order, readers get a free swag bag with a “Masters Brat” button, pens, trading cards, and more).
